I Like Pie
One of the best things about living in Folsom are all the great places to go for a day trip. One of my family’s favorite is Apple Hill in El Dorado County. From Folsom it takes about 35 minutes to get to Apple Hill. Apple Hill was started more than 40 years ago, founding members wanted a place where growers and buyers could talk to one another.
Today Apple Hill offers family farms, with fresh fruit, cider, pumpkins, Christmas trees and berries. They also have bake shops(pies!), picnic areas, and wineries. There are arts and crafts booths at several farms. Bring your own picnic basket or enjoy some of the tasty food they offer. Several farms have lovely picnic areas with views.
At Abel’s Acres they have a maze and pony rides. At High Hill Ranch they have trout fishing(fee) and pony rides. We always come home with pies and fudge (from several different ranches), and a teriyaki sauce my husband likes from Abel’s Acres.
The busy season is from Labor Day to December 24, however some farms are open year round. There is a map of all of the farms here, and you can also pick up a map and information of all the farms at most of the farms in Apple Hill.
I recommend you go early and plan on some traffic on certain busy weekends.
If you have a favorite Apple Hill Farm, let me know on my Facebook page!
